I am an Art and Design student hoping to make a career in the Product design industry.
The course i am on allows me to explore every angle of art and design for 8 weeks before i choose a particular field i would like specialise in. I enjoy to read how other artists/designers find their inspiration and display it in their pieces as i find the design process more appealing than the finished product. I like minimalistic pieces, Donald Judd and John Harvey McCracken are among my favourite minimal artists. I like to visit galleries and exhibitions to see how others work and gain advice from Practising and well established designers. I once had a chat with Lorenzo Quinn during his exhibition of sculptures, since then i have been very drawn to sculptural pieces. He explained how he developed the monumental bronze sculpture La Dolce Vita and the reason behind it ‘joie de vivre’ of the age of La Dolce Vita as described to him by his father, “…and the sense of total abandonment to the child within.” i found this to be very fascinating that he created sculptures based on feelings of events. My preferred field is Product design. I enjoy designing products that would make life easier, the thought of having an idea and bringing it to life excites me. I look at how i can transform everyday objects to be more aesthetically appealing and more consumer friendly. Im fond of colour but basic sharp pieces intrigue me more i think its down to the sleek minimal effect you can achieve using chrome, metallic black and matt colours is more my cup of tea.
